All right, haters. You know who you are. Those fervent fans of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer who go around singing, “We’re a couple of misfits” while you’re trying to eat your sandwich in the breakroom. Those Great Pumpkin apologists, who sit out in pumpkin patches on Halloween in the name of ‘fun.’ I’m about to lay down some REAL TALK.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is the best holiday special. Hands down.

I know that there are those of you who are sentimental for the original Charlie Brown Christmas, but frankly sweet baboos, it was always a little too introspective for me. I enjoy its tone and sort of Christmas melancholy, but I also enjoy frivolity in my holiday specials. I only see them once a year, so I want to feel nostalgic and cheered up. I don’t want to worry about the state of the world and the over-commercialization of Christmas. Therefore, I’ve concluded that the Peanuts’ Thanksgiving special offers the perfect amount of funny, heartwarming and tradition.

1.) It contains a bunch of awesome Peanuts tropes, including Lucy pulling away the football, Snoopy’s bigger-on-the-inside doghouse, and Peppermint Patty bullying Charlie Brown into throwing a Thanksgiving dinner.

2.) This brilliant food clip where Chef Snoopy makes toast and popcorn. I’ve always liked that the butter looks like cheese, and they stack the toast using that card shuffling noise a la Scooby Doo.

3.) This special contains the funkiest Vince Guaraldi song of all: “Little Birdie.” It’s just a really good song that puts me in that nostalgic Fat Albert/Hanna-Barbera 70s cartoon mindset.

4.) Oh man! The Thanksgiving meal itself is crazy! Snoopy literally FLINGS the plates of food at the kids, while they look distressed! They make the black kid, Franklin, sit all alone on his side of the table in the busted beach chair! Peppermint Patty throws a bitch fit that culminates in her screaming, “Where’s the PUMPKIN PIE?!” Then she later apologizes to Charlie Brown by accusing him of putting the moves her. God, I love her crush on Chuck.

ABC is airing it twice this year since they know it’s such a crowd-pleaser. Catch it on Wednesday, November 21st and on Thursday, November 22nd at 8pm/7C.
